Sheffield United Women's player Maddy Cusack dies at age of 27

Sheffield United midfielder, Maddy Cusack passed away on Wednesday September 20. The 27-year-old, who worked also as a marketing executive at the club, had made over 100 appearances since joining the Women's Championship club in 2019.

Sheffield United men's team intended to pay tribute to Cusack during Sunday's Premier League game against Newcastle, while her former clubs Burnley and Nottingham Forest have postponed their games this week. 

Heckingbottom said: "First and foremost everyone's thoughts are with Maddy's friends and family, a lot of Maddy's friends work at this football club." The team's coach added, "We look after everyone here, but first and foremost we are thinking of Maddy's family. And we send them our best." 

Maddy's brother has paid a heartbreaking tribute to his 'beautiful sister' after her shock death at the age of 27.
